Denise Nicole Malcolm pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 21 years in state prison for fatally shooting her husband, Rohan Malcolm, at their Coral Springs, Florida, home on August 31, 2024.

Rohan Malcolm, 52, and Denise Malcolm lived in the 10500 block of Northwest 43rd Street in Coral Springs, Broward County, with their 14-year-old twin sons, who are minors and are not named in reporting. Denise Malcolm was reported as 45 at the time of the shooting and 46 at sentencing. She later told detectives she had suspected for about two years that her husband was unfaithful and had reached the end of her patience with what she described as his "lies and deceit."

The couple returned from shopping for a Labor Day weekend barbecue on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Rohan Malcolm announced that he was leaving for Port St. Lucie with friends. Denise Malcolm believed he was lying and intended to see another woman. After an argument lasting roughly 45 minutes to an hour, she went to her bedroom closet, retrieved and loaded a handgun, and shot him several times at about 6:30 p.m.

One twin heard the shots from his room, saw his mother standing in a doorway with the gun and found his father wounded and bleeding. He called 911 and reported that his father had been shot in the shoulder. Coral Springs police arrived and ordered those inside to come out. Officers reported hearing what they believed was one more gunshot inside the house. Rohan Malcolm died of his wounds. According to the arrest report, Denise Malcolm had been considering killing herself, but something her husband said as he lay wounded stopped her and led her to shoot him a final time.

There was no dispute about who fired the shots. Police took Denise Malcolm into custody at the house and interviewed her at Coral Springs Police Department headquarters. She walked detectives through the evening and said she shot her husband over his infidelity, telling them she was at her wits' end with his "lies and deceit." Her account formed the basis for the sequence in the arrest report, including the argument over the Port St. Lucie trip, retrieving and loading the pistol, and the final shot. She was charged with first-degree premeditated murder and held without bond in the Broward County jail system.

On June 11, 2025, Malcolm pleaded no contest to second-degree murder under an agreement with prosecutors, reducing the first-degree murder charge on which she was arrested. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but it is treated as a conviction for sentencing. She received credit for 285 days already served in jail and was ordered to pay $23,500 in restitution to the Crimes Compensation Trust Fund. No appeal has been reported. The June 2025 plea and sentence are the most recent developments in the case.
