Ashley Lynn Monn Questioned in Balsam Lake Arson

Ashley Lynn Monn was sentenced to 20 years in prison on February 20, 2026, after she was convicted of felony arson in the fire that destroyed a rental home in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin.

Monn was 28 and lived in Milltown, Wisconsin, when she was charged in Polk County Circuit Court with arson of a building without the owner's consent under Wisconsin Statute 943.02(1)(a). She was reportedly convicted by guilty plea, although the plea date has not been publicly confirmed. Judge Jeffery Anderson imposed the sentence. Public reporting does not state how the term divides between initial confinement and extended supervision, and no appeal has been reported. News coverage in November 2025 had reported that the case was moving forward.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to the West White Ash Drive home on December 13, 2024, after a fire broke out late at night. No deaths or injuries were reported. Investigators found vehicle and foot tracks near the residence and reviewed security video showing a white pickup truck entering the driveway shortly before the fire was discovered. Prosecutors alleged that Monn entered the basement shortly before the home was engulfed in flames.

Local reporting tied the rental home to a coworker of Monn and said a barroom dispute had occurred earlier that evening. A full motive was not established.

In her first recorded interview, conducted on December 13, 2024, Monn described working a long shift at a machine shop and then stopping at a bar where a woman she knew was working. She said she helped behind the bar, argued with another patron and left after police were called. She said she had been drinking and drove to the woman's house to wait for her, entered through an unlocked basement door, found the home cold and left after only a couple of minutes.

Monn said she never touched the wood stove, did not know whether she had a cigarette and could not explain how the fire started. She was not arrested that night. Investigators took her phone and clothing for testing under a consent search, told her to think things over during the weekend and gave her a card to call. Monn was reported to have admitted being at the property that night.

Monn later left Wisconsin and was arrested in Florida before being returned to Wisconsin for prosecution. A judge set bond at $50,000 cash. A second recorded interview took place on February 27, 2025, after her return, and is described separately in a reply to the thread.

The video is a police interview-room recording that runs about 80 minutes. It presents the interview itself and begins with a short narrated introduction naming the people involved.

Re: Ashley Lynn Monn Questioned in Balsam Lake Arson

Ashley Lynn Monn was sentenced to 20 years in prison on February 20, 2026, for arson of a building without the owner's consent in a December 2024 fire that destroyed a rental home on West White Ash Drive in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin.

Monn had been charged over the fire. Her second recorded interview took place on February 27, 2025, in Polk County, after she was arrested in Florida and returned to Wisconsin. She remained in custody throughout the interview.

The investigator reminded Monn that he had kept his promise not to jail her the first night and said the prosecutor was willing to hear recommendations if she was honest. Her first interview appears in the opening post of this thread, and she was not arrested after it.

Monn said she had been very drunk and using drugs on the night of the fire. She said she wanted to go to the house to get high and remembered being angry and speaking by phone with a relative while there.

Investigators told her the relative said Monn had told him she set fire to a paper towel at the foot of the stairs, where they said the fire started. Monn said she had no memory of doing that, but said she would admit her guilt if the prosecutor would work with her because it was her mistake.

She also described buying a camper, learning that police had searched her home and driving on to Florida, which she said was not planned.

The video is a police interview-room recording that runs about 42 minutes. It shows the interview itself and opens with a short narrated introduction naming the people involved.
