Adam Rosolowski Questioned in Robert and Bonnie Rosolowski Killings

Adam Rosolowski was sentenced to life in prison on December 12, 2022, for the killings of his grandparents in rural Rusk County, Wisconsin, with permission to petition for release after serving 40 years. Chippewa County Judge James Isaacson imposed the sentence. The prosecutor had sought release eligibility at age 75; the defense had requested eligibility after 20 years.

Robert D. Rosolowski, 73, and Bonnie Mae Rosolowski, 70, were married and lived on Market Road near Conrath, about 16 miles southeast of Ladysmith. The Wisconsin Department of Justice placed their home in the town of Sheldon. Robert Rosolowski served on the Town of Marshall board and volunteered with the Sheldon Fire District. Adam Rosolowski, their grandson, was 21 when arrested in June 2020. According to the criminal complaint, he said his grandparents had "messed up his life."

The complaint says Adam Rosolowski, a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old went to the home on June 6, 2020, to kill the couple. It says the 17-year-old fired shots at both victims, Adam Rosolowski fired at his grandmother, and the 16-year-old was the planned getaway driver. The three also took clothing and a speaker and tried to take the grandparents' truck, according to the complaint. Family members found the couple dead on June 7, 2020, and the Rusk County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the house.

The sheriff's office led the investigation with the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory and the Wisconsin State Patrol. On June 8, 2020, the Department of Justice said the deaths had been ruled a double homicide and investigators believed the attack was targeted, not random. By June 9, 2020, all three were being held in the Rusk County Jail. At a June 25, 2020, court appearance, each faced two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and other felonies. Cash bail was set at $1 million for Adam Rosolowski and $500,000 for each of the other two.

In an interview with investigators, Adam Rosolowski admitted being in the house and said the 17-year-old shot his grandfather and grandmother. Their cases were later joined for a trial set to begin in January 2022. On April 11, 2022, in Rusk County Circuit Court, Adam Rosolowski pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree intentional homicide as a party to a crime. Eight other charges were dismissed but read in. The 17-year-old co-defendant, by then 19, pleaded guilty that day to the same two counts, with five other charges dismissed but read in. The pleas ended the plan for a joint trial.

On July 26, 2022, Rusk County Circuit Judge Steven Anderson sentenced the 17-year-old co-defendant to life in prison without the possibility of release. Adam Rosolowski was due to be sentenced the next day, but Anderson withdrew from his case after a motion by Adam Rosolowski's attorney. Isaacson took over the case.

The 16-year-old, the planned getaway driver, pleaded no contest in February 2021 to two counts of party to felony murder and was found guilty. Five other charges were dismissed but read in. He was sentenced in May 2021 to 20 years of probation. If he violates probation, he faces seven years in prison and six years of extended supervision.
