Genuinely curious here.....how come some caskets have glass over them? Is it to mask the smell of decay?

Maybe, but nearly all caskets in the PH have glass on them, I think for protection of the body during viewing.

The glass lids are from the Philippines. It keeps both insects out and the smell in, since wakes here last for a week on average.

What Latin cultures? Never saw a casket with a glass in my country (Argentina), the wakes last 24 hours at most...
