Re: Various Different Women Shown in Their Casket
Any fellow funeral directors that lurk these forums? I'm a licensed funeral director/embalmer in the U.S. This is a great in-depth description of embalming! I'll add a few comments. The moisturizer you mention in the beginning is usually put on the face and sometimes hands AFTER embalming to keep them from dehydrating as embalming is a dehydrating process. However soap is used to massage the body throughout the embalming as this helps promote fluid distribution to the extremities. One part you didn't mention is that sometimes this unfortunately doesn't solve the issue of distribution. Sometimes fluid does NOT reach all the extremities or left side of the face, since you typically inject through the right common carotid artery the right side of the face never really has an issue getting fluid. You can access if the limb or area of the body got fluid by color or how firm it is. If the limb didn't get fluid, which most commonly is a leg if not both due to femoral arteries be the first to get sclerotic, you have to raise the artery for that limb and inject fluid that way. So if a leg doesn't get fluid, we use the femoral artery to inject fluid and attain distribution that way. This can happen with arms, in which case you use the auxillary artery on the inside of the bicep, or the left common carotid artery if the left side of the face does not gain enough fluid. Anus and vagina are only covered when leakage occurs, which isn't with every dead person thankfully, with cotton or an A/V enclosure, which bluntly is a plastic buttplug type device that seals the hole as well. Autopsy and organ donation embalmings are performed very differently from a normal embalming and can take more time, especially an organ donor due to the procurement of long bone donation from the legs and arms. I can go into those when I have more time someday if wanted :)

In her casket at the wake in jeans and bare feet? Curious. I suppose if that was her usual fashion preference, then it makes some sense.

I'm sure her outfit was picked out by her parents/ legal guardians. If she is young with nice and healthy arteries, it shouldn't take more than 45 mins to embalm her since she doesn't look anymore than 115 lbs. I've seen a person buried in his McDonald's work uniform before so this ain't too bad.

Buried in a McD's uniform? That is eerie. I can't see working at McD's something that people want to remember... They do have some cool looking shirts though recently... I have heard of weddings at McDonalds, I wonder if they will ever allow a funeral. Maybe batter and deep fry you so you look like a giant Chicken McNugget... |

Did she die in an accident? Her nose looks injured. Do you have any additional information on her, or where you found the image? |
