In the U.S.A., most funeral homes at one time or another, take a loss for their services. The family fails to pay for services rendered and laws prevent the exhumation of the corpse. The funeral homes either absorb the loss or pass it on to other living customers.

Once rigor breaks,does the body stiffen back up after embalming? I doubt they embalmed the guy,but you'd still think the rigor would have subsided by then?

If i remember right it starts a few hours after death and can last around 4 days, dependant on conditions etc. Some of these places carry out burials within hours of death.

Hmmm I understand their annoyance at not getting paid so a 'lesson' needs to be taught however doing that during a burial is sick for the mourners. They should try sort the debt out before it gets to this stage, maybe retain the body until such times as the debt can be paid.
