A Positional Asphyxia in an Unusual Place(a Laundry)
In March 1996, the body of a 26-year-old young woman was found naked inside a laundry machine in a villa in Korea. The deceased woman was married, but had separated from her husband due to an argument. The mother of the deceased woman went to the deceased woman's house because she was not answering her phone calls, but the door was locked and there was no response to the doorbell. The deceased's mother called the police, and the police opened the locked door and found the deceased woman. The laundry machine was filled with water up to the deceased woman's waist, and her upper body was lying face down. The deceased woman was 158cm tall and had normal nutrition. The police suspected murder and investigated the suspects and conducted an autopsy. The conclusion is that the deceased was intoxicated (blood alcohol level: 0.17%) when washing her body inside the laundry machine, and her arms were caught in the empty space between the inside of the laundry machine and the rotating drum, and her legs were tightly caught inside the rotating drum, causing her chest and abdomen to be compressed, resulting in her death by asphyxiation. The deceased's house did not have a bathtub, so it is presumed that the deceased attempted to take a bath by entering the laundry machine. There was blood in the deceased's nasal cavity, and a small abrasion of the epidermis was observed on the chin, and it is presumed that the blood around the deceased was caused by the impact to the nose while the deceased was struggling to get out of the laundry machine. The police concluded that the cause of death was positional asphyxiation due to impaired blood flow to the heart and accumulated fatigue of the respiratory muscles.  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  · |
