Re: My Mother in Her Casket

Jennilee, thank you for sharing these pics of your mom, and I'm so sorry. We're traveling the same road, I lost my mom 13 days later. Some days are better than others, friend.

My sincere condolences to you as well.

Re: My Mother in Her Casket

I will assume you were a baby.

Personally, having lost my father and two brothers in three years, I don't feel it gets better and you never forget! I'm an adult and perhaps I knew my family longer, but, you seem very cold about your loss.

We all handle grief differently, and some peoples' religious beliefs help them through, but, I don't think it ever gets easier. How can you ever forget someone who was so important to you?
I am so sorry, Hun! I don't think he meant to be cold. My dad died when I was 4. Therefor, I have maybe 5 memories of him with 1 being the night he died. It is so much harder when you have memories, like you. You spent many years making memories and sharing things together. It is much harder for you. If you had told me your story, I would never say to you, it gets better with time. It does get better when you experience it at 4 years old and know nothing about death. You have had more than your share of sadness and my heart goes out to you!!!

It wasn't directed at me personally, but, I don't get that attitude. Thank you for your thoughts though. I didn't need an apology, but, I appreciate it.

My poor mother is 77 and two of us were holding her up when another brother died in 2010. I don't know how she did it. He drank himself to death.

Some of those old ladies are tough, but, she looked awful, almost like a ghost. I had to be strong for her through it all, but, losing a child has to be worse than losing a parent, except when you are very young.

I know there are two sides to every story, but, when I hear people say, "You get over it", or "Things get better", it makes me angry.

It's ok. Those are your feelings.

I AGREE with you. That is why I would never tell anyone that. My friends lost their son a few months ago and I can't imagine telling them "It gets better with time." it is never going to get better for them.

On a different note...I hate when someone says "Things can always be worse!". How is that supposed to soothe me? When my husband left and took everything I was 30 days from being homeless and people at work would say"Things could always be worse". Of course they can be worse, but I still have no place no live!

Re: My Mother in Her Casket

my initial instinct was one of outrage....but then again.....why should i be outraged? your mother, yes, but...the theme is "documenting reality", so.....unconventional, yes. sick? ....dunno, depends i guess
