Re: Female Pregnant Autopsy
She wasn't a real redhead! Well not collar & cuffs anyways! But its a very sad thing to both see and wonder as to the circumstances of her demise. Judging by the apparent lack of obvious trauma it would come down to either ilness or a suicide by the common means for the time (this looks like a tinted photograph so ages it along with the straight autopsy insision instead of the more common later Y insision, so I wonder was she single and pregnant and used the heavy many layers of clothes worn at the time to assist her in drowning herself. The weight of the wet clothes and the suction caused by the skirts and peticoats underneath used to make it almost imposible to pull a drowned or drowning woman out of the water and onto a boat so much so the waterboatmen used habitually drag them to the shore line as it would put them in danger of capsizing and dager themselves. Futhermore very few people could swim back in the day so even falling overboard from a boat was tantamount to a deat sentance! |

Re: Female Pregnant Autopsy
This is a colorized pic taken from Weimann & Prokop's Atlas der Gerichtlichen Medizin, published in the 50's. the only thing stated with the pic was the comment "Kind hatte gelebt" what ever that means...

Re: Female Pregnant Autopsy
The baby was stuck in the birth canal, and the mother probably died trying to give birth. You can tell he was stuck, by how far his head is wedged down into the pelvis, and by the swelling of the vulvae. The lips of the vulva are also separated, which means that the baby's head was down as far as it could go without being born. Sad case, but all too common ![]() |

Re: Female Pregnant Autopsy
The words "Kind hatte galebt" mean "child had lived' in German. So the mother probably died during the emergency c-section and the baby was un-wedged and survived the procedure.
