Autopsy on 48-year-old Woman in Decomposition
On March 9, 2005, the landlord visited the tenant due to overdue rent and found the body of the 48-year-old tenant there. There was no sign of an outside break-in. The deceased had been defrauded by a friend of about 50 million won (about 60,000 dollars) a year earlier. She had not paid her rent and electricity bill, and after her divorce, she had been living alone in a rented house away from her family. The front door was locked from the inside, so it could not be opened from the outside without a key. The deceased was found with decomposition mainly on the face, abdomen, and lower body. A scarf was wrapped twice around the deceased's neck, and decomposed body fluids were flowing from her nose and mouth, which were dried. No fractures were observed in the cervical cartilage, no abnormalities were observed in the major organs, and no abnormalities were observed in the skull or brain. No other toxic substances were detected, and alcohol was negative. South Korean police concluded that her cause of death was suicide using a scarf.   |
