Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV
Poland’s Deputy Defense Minister has confirmed that US weapons are flowing from Poland into Ukraine again. US national security adviser Mike Waltz and US secretary of state Marco Rubio are speaking to reporters following meetings with senior Ukrainian officials in Jeddah. Ukraine and the US have taken a “positive step” during talks today, Rubio says, adding that the US will now “take this offer” to the Russians, adding that “the ball is in their court”. Waltz says the Ukrainian delegation made “very clear” on Tuesday that they “share President Trump’s vision for peace”. Ukraine “made concrete steps and proposals” including accepting Washington’s proposal for a full ceasefire, he says. Waltz says he will speak to his Russian counterpart “in the coming days” and that Rubio will be with G7 foreign ministers in the next couple of days. On Feb. 25, a flurry of accurate russian drone strikes knocked out dozens of Ukrainian vehicles along the main road to Sudzha, the town that is—or was—the main base for the 10,000-strong Ukrainian force occupying a significant, but quickly shrinking, salient in Kursk Oblast in western russia. Two weeks later, it seems the bulk of the Ukrainian force—including some of the Ukrainian army’s heaviest brigades—has evacuated Kursk and repositioned on the Ukrainian side of the border. “My friends managed to leave Kursk, avoiding encirclement,” one Ukrainian source claimed Monday. “It’s sad that it came to this. But it is what it is.” |

Ukraine has created a drone carrier that carries FPV drones to hit targets behind enemy lines. The drone carrier can carry up to six FPV drones and works as a repeater for communication between the operator and FPV. |

The Czech-led ammunition initiative for Ukraine can deliver another 1.5m artillery rounds in 2025, as many as last year, the Czech prime minister, Petr Fiala, said on Thursday after the Paris summit of Ukraine’s allies. The initiative was launched last year and funded by a number of allies. Among the rounds provided in 2024 were 500,000 units of 155mm shells, the Czech defence ministry said in February this year. The 155mm rounds fit Nato artillery guns provided by western allies to Ukraine, whereas its post-Soviet arsenal uses 152mm shells. The Czech-led initiative supplies both kinds. |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV
On April 13, 2025, russian forces launched two ballistic missile strikes on the city center of Sumy, Ukraine, during Palm Sunday celebrations, resulting in one of the deadliest attacks of the conflict. The assault killed at least 34 people, including two children, and injured 117 others, with 15 children among the wounded. The missiles struck civilian areas, destroying a trolleybus, damaging Sumy State University’s Congress Center, other university buildings, and residential areas. Local reports described horrific scenes, with bodies scattered and fires engulfing vehicles. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, calling it an act of terrorism and urging a strong global response, emphasizing that "talks have never stopped ballistic missiles." He also invited U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine to witness the devastation firsthand. Donald Trump described the attack as "terrible" and a "mistake," stating, "I was told they made a mistake, but I think it’s a horrible thing. I think the whole war is a horrible thing." He claimed the war would not have occurred under his presidency and expressed intent to stop the conflict. He provided no specifics on the "mistake" claim. Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, condemned the attack, stating it "crossed any line of decency." U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called it "horrifying," and the U.S. Embassy in russia issued a statement expressing condolences, framing the attack as a reminder of the need for peace. European leaders also reacted strongly. German Chancellor-in-waiting Friedrich Merz labeled it a "war crime" and an act of "perfidy." UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he was "appalled" and called for an immediate ceasefire by russia. French President Emmanuel Macron and other leaders echoed condolences and condemnation. The Orthodox Public Affairs Committee denounced the attack as "brutal and disgraceful," noting its timing during a significant Christian holiday. The attack occurred amid stalled U.S.-led peace talks, with Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff having met President Vladimir Putin days earlier. Some say russia’s actions were a deliberate escalation during negotiations. Ukraine’s military intelligence reported that 112th and 448th missile brigades used Iskander-M ballistic missiles for the attack. |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV
The possible next German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has provoked sharp criticism in Moscow with comments about the possible destruction of the Russian bridge to the annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. "Think twice, Nazi!" wrote the deputy head of the Russian National Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, on Platform X. The former president was reacting to statements made by Merz on the ARD program "Caren Miosga". In it, the leader of the German Christian Democrats not only remained open to the delivery of the Taurus cruise missile to Ukraine. He also explained that destroying the Crimean Bridge could benefit Ukraine. "Fritz Merz is haunted by the memory of his father, who served in Hitler's Wehrmacht," Medvedev continued. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused Merz of aiming to escalate the war in Ukraine. Merz said on ARD television that the Ukrainian army must be put in a position to determine part of the course of events itself. "The Ukrainian army must come out of the defensive," said Merz. He then said that destroying the bridge as the most important link from Russia to Crimea could help Ukraine. "That would be an opportunity to finally bring this country strategically (...) in front of the situation," he said. Following several attacks on the bridge, Ukraine has repeatedly declared its intention to bomb the structure. Nuclear power Russia has repeatedly warned against such an attack. In the past, Moscow also made public a wiretapped conversation between officers of the German Armed Forces, who had specifically discussed the destruction of the Crimean Bridge with cruise missiles. Merz said in the ARD program that Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin does not react positively to weakness and peace offers. During his time as an opposition politician, he had shown himself to be open to the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. This still applies, said the CDU chairman on Sunday. "Not that we are intervening in this war ourselves, but that we are equipping the Ukrainian army with such weapons." When asked, Merz added that he had always said that he would only do this in consultation with his European partners. The Social Democrat Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is still in office, is strictly opposed to a Taurus delivery. |
