Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

Zelenskyy says plan includes US security guarantees for 15 years - despite asking for more
We're hearing more details about what Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed in their talks last night.
The Ukrainian president has been telling reporters this morning that the peace plan envisages US security guarantees for 15 years.
However, Zelenskyy had asked Trump for guarantees of up to 50 years, indicating the differences between the sides.
At a news conference last night, Zelenskyy told reporters that security guarantees between the US and Ukraine are now "100% agreed" - suggesting he's accepted Trump's 15-year offer.
It's still not clear what the US is offering in terms of security reassurances to Ukraine, with Trump regularly reluctant to commit US forces to ensure peace in the area.
Further guarantees involving European countries are not quite at the same stage, but have been "almost agreed", Zelenskyy added.
As we mentioned earlier though, Russia will almost certainly object to any security proposals from Ukraine's allies which involve forces from other countries.

So they want 15 years to rearm before they attack again

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

A top Russian official on Monday issued personal threats against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after Russia claimed that Ukraine launched a drone attack on one of Russian President Vladimir Putin's official residences.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov alleged that Ukraine launched a drone attack on Putin's state residence in Novgorod region on the night of Dec. 29. Lavrov offered no evidence to support the assertion, which Zelenskyy was quick to dismiss as a Russian disinformation effort.

Dmitry Medvedev -- the former Russian president and prime minister now serving on the country's Security Council -- posted to X accusing Zelenskyy of "trying to derail the settlement of the conflict," referring to the ongoing U.S.-sponsored peace talks.

"He wants war. Well, now at least he'll have to stay in hiding for the rest of his worthless life," Medvedev wrote.

The Kremlin said U.S. President Donald Trump was informed of the alleged attack during a Monday phone call with Putin. Russian officials also threatened retaliatory strikes in Ukraine.

Yuri Ushakov, a top aide to Putin, told the state-run Tass news agency that Putin and Trump discussed the issue by phone on Monday, with the U.S. leader expressing his surprise and anger.

Zelenskyy rejected the Russian reports of the supposed Ukrainian drone attack as "yet another lie."

"Now, with their statement that some residence of theirs was attacked, they are simply preparing -- I am sure -- preparing the ground, in principle, to launch strikes, probably on the capital and, probably, on state buildings," Zelenskyy said.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in a post to X on Tuesday that "Russia still hasn't provided any plausible evidence to its accusations of Ukraine's alleged 'attack on Putin's residence.' And they won't. Because there's none. No such attack happened."

It is unclear what the latest developments might mean for the ongoing peace talks.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday that the alleged Ukrainian attack would prompt a "hardening of the Russian Federation's negotiating position," as quoted by the state-run Tass news agency.

"Russia is not withdrawing from the negotiation process," Peskov added, describing the alleged attack as an effort aimed "at disrupting President Trump's efforts to promote a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict."

Russia alleged on December 29, 2025, that Ukraine targeted Putin's Valdai residence (also known as Dolgiye Borody or Roshchino complex) in the Novgorod region with 91 long-range drones overnight on December 28–29. Russian officials, including Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, claimed all drones were intercepted by air defenses with no damage or injuries.

Independent analysts and media outlets highlighted significant inconsistencies and lack of corroboration:No photos, videos, debris, or visual evidence emerged, unlike typical Ukrainian drone strikes deep in Russia.

Local residents and regional authorities in Novgorod reported no air defense activity or explosions.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported downing only 89 drones nationwide that night, with far fewer (18–47) over Novgorod—contradicting Lavrov's claim of 91 targeted at the residence.

The heavily defended Valdai area (with multiple Pantsir-S1 systems) makes a large-scale unsuccessful attack unlikely without detectable traces.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted the claim does not match patterns of verified Ukrainian strikes and found no supporting footage or reports.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

The CIA concluded Ukraine did not target Putin's residence. Drones in the region were aimed at a separate military facility instead.

The U.S. found that Ukraine had been seeking to strike a military target located in the same region as Putin's country residence but not close by, the CIA official said.

President Trump on Wednesday appeared to play down the russian claim of an attempted drone attack, posting a link to a New York Post editorial that asserted that the Ukraine strike likely didn't occur and sharing the headline: "Putin 'attack' bluster shows russia is the one standing in the way of peace."

Trump's post came after CIA Director John Ratcliffe briefed the president on the issue, according to a person familiar with the exchange. U.S. intelligence has a number of ways to monitor russia's airspace, military activities and attacks on its territory, including with satellites, radar, and communication intercepts.

Trump told reporters on Monday that he was "very angry" after Putin told him in a phone conversation that Ukrainian drones had targeted his residence, known as Dolgiye Borody, or Long Beards, along a lake shore in the country's northwest.

Asked if the U.S. had evidence that such an attack had taken place, Trump replied: "You are saying, maybe the attack didn't take place-that is possible too, I guess, but President Putin told me this morning it did."
On Wednesday, Major General Alexander Romanenkov, who heads the russian Aerospace Forces’ air defense missile troops, said Ukraine carried out the drone assault “along several routes toward the russian president’s residence, passing over the Bryansk, Smolensk, Tver and Novgorod regions.”

According to Romanenkov, 50 of 91 drones used in the attack were intercepted over the Bryansk and Smolensk regions, both of which are located hundreds of kilometers from Putin’s residence and regularly face drone strikes from Ukraine.

A map shown during Romanenkov’s briefing at a Defense Ministry gathering indicated that the center of the intercepts in Bryansk and Smolensk was roughly 520 kilometers (323 miles) south of Valdai.

Romanenkov, who did not explain how the military determined that those 50 Ukrainian drones were en route to Valdai, said another 41 unmanned aircraft were shot down in the Novgorod region.

The Defense Ministry previously reported downing only 18 Ukrainian drones in the region between Sunday and Monday.

“The configuration of the attack, the number of aerial assault assets involved… clearly indicate that the terrorist attack by the Kyiv regime was deliberate, carefully planned and conducted in a layered manner,” Romanenkov said.

Alongside the general’s statement, the Defense Ministry released a video that it said showed a downed Ukrainian drone in a snowy forest at night, claiming it was one among the dozens used in the attack on Valdai.

The footage did not include details allowing independent verification of when or where it was recorded.

The military also released a video testimony from a man it identified as Igor Bolshakov, described as a Valdai resident, who claimed he heard explosions at the time of the alleged attack on Putin’s residence.

"I woke up in the morning from the noise. To be honest, at first I didn't understand, maybe dump trucks were working somewhere or something else.

But then it quickly dawned on me when I got up what it was. And I heard the sound of missiles for the first time in my life.

Such a screech. I heard it from the side of Lake Valdai," shared the local resident.
News media was able to find a profile belonging to Bolshakov on the social media website VKontakte, where his location was listed as Valdai.

However, it was not immediately possible to verify his account of the alleged attack, which contradicts independent reporting that cites more than a dozen Valdai residents who said they heard nothing between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

A russian overnight drone strike hit a hospital in Kyiv, killing at least one person and injuring four others on Jan. 5.

Enemy forces launched 165 strike drones overnight, of which roughly 100 were Shahed-type drones. Two of the four wounded victims are in serious condition, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

The State Emergency Service reported that the second floor of the private, four-story hospital was struck, causing damage to the inpatient ward. It said that 25 people were evacuated from the premises.

The latest russian drone attack on Kyiv comes as Zelensky prepares for another diplomatic week in Europe, where he says there will be meetings with Western allies to receive more support and to end the war in Ukraine.

Condemning the russian attack on the hospital, Zelensky called on Western allies to help bolster Ukraine's air defense capability.

"Air defense is needed every day, funds for the production of interceptor drones are needed every day, and equipment for the energy sector is needed every day," Zelensky said.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

The Magyar's Birds are a drone unit of the 414th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Strike Systems, aka Robert brovdi Brigade, callsign "Magyar".

After the December non-stop invasion of the occupiers, the enemy paid a high price for this, with over 33,000 confirmed losses of live forces in Delta, 12,000 of which were by the Magyar Birds.

Such a result (33k verified) was achieved for the first time.
+26% The overall army's total increase in the destruction of enemy personnel by drones in December compared to November (33,019 in December against 26,170 in November)

+42% An increase in the destruction of enemies by the Birds of Magyar (12,037 in December against 8,473 in November).
