Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

Ukranian forces using artillery have hit and destroyed a russian armoured column rushing to reinforce Malaya Lokniya in the Kursk region.

Ukrainian forces have launched a major counteroffensive, saying that Russia is “getting what it deserves”.

According to a Russian military blogger, Ukrainian forces launched attacks from Cherkasskoe Porechnoe toward Berdin in the Kursk Oblast.

The Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation has confirmed that Ukrainian forces launched surprise attacks against Russian forces in several locations in Kursk Oblast, Russia.

Andriy Yermak, the Ukrainian presidential administration head, wrote on Telegram: “Kurshchyna, good news, Russia is getting what it deserves.”

One Russian military blogger said Ukraine had launched a “last resort counteroffensive”. They added: “Keep your fingers crossed and pray for the guys.”

Russian forces have steadily pushed back Ukrainian forces along the main frontline in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region over the past six months. They have also recaptured more than half the area captured by Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk region.

A Russian state newspaper has said one of its freelance reporters has been killed in a drone strike near the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

Izvestia, the newspaper, said a civilian vehicle carrying the journalist, named as Alexander Martemyanov, was struck as it travelled on a highway. It said five other media workers were also injured in the attack.

Moscow has accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting the journalist. Ukraine has not commented.
“The Ukrainian army launched a drone strike on a civilian car carrying Izvestia’s freelance correspondent Alexander Martemyanov,” the news outlet reported on its Telegram channel, adding: “The car was located far from the line of contact.”
Maria Zakharova, the Russian foreign ministry spokesperson, called the incident “deliberate murder”.

Russian military bloggers have confirmed a Ukrainian counteroffensive in Russia’s Kursk region but said that it may be a “diversionary” attack.

A Telegram channel said that Ukraine has been preparing for months for a counterattack along the frontline and that Russian forces were ready to repel it.

“The direction of the main counterattack is not yet clear, and the manoeuvres from the occupied part of the Kursk region may be diversionary,” it said.
Russian forces have steadily pushed back Ukrainian forces along the main frontline in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region over the past six months. They have also recaptured more than half the area captured by Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk region.

A prominent Kremlin propagandist has mocked Ukraine’s counteroffensive in the Kursk region as a PR stunt designed to impress Donald Trump.

Sergei Markov, a former Kremlin speech-writer, said that Ukraine had only launched a counteroffensive in the Kursk region to show the incoming US president that it could still take the fight to Russia.

“Zelensky’s logic is that he wants to show Trump, for his own political reasons, that the Ukrainian army is strong and that there is no need to capitulate to Russia,” he said.

Mr Trump is due to be inaugurated on January 20. He has said that he intends to cut military aid to Ukraine and wants to impose a peace deal to end the war.

Ukraine has launched a surprise counteroffensive inside Russia, forcing Vladimir Putin to dispatch one of his top generals to the front line.

Russian military bloggers first reported attacks by Ukrainian tanks and infantry on positions in Kursk shortly after dawn on Sunday.

They said that Ukrainian forces were attacking towards the village of Bolshoye Soldatskoye, 15 miles north-east of Sudzha, the Ukrainian stronghold in the region.

“The enemy is driving forward with tanks and armoured personnel carriers full of soldiers,” the Archangel of Spetsnaz Z, told its 1.15 million subscribers on Telegram.

Both Ukrainian and Russian officials later also confirmed the attacks, likely launched to strengthen Kyiv’s position ahead of potential peace talks.

The head of Ukraine’s Centre for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, also said the Russians “were attacked from several directions. It was a surprise for them”.

But reports from Kursk detailed Russian resistance and described a series of fierce, and at times, confused battles. Pro-Russia Telegrams also circulated video of an alleged Russian drone strike destroying a Ukrainian-operated British Challenger 2 tank. The claim could not be independently verified.

WarGonzo, a Russian blogging Telegram channel, said that the attack appeared to have been carefully planned because Ukraine had built up a counteroffensive force based on Nato equipment over November and December in neighbouring regions.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

The German defense company Rheinmetall has already delivered the latest infantry fighting vehicle KF41 Lynx to Ukraine. This took place at the end of 2024, Rheinmetall's CEO Armin Papperger shared this information with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

According to Papperger, the first Lynx infantry fighting vehicle delivered to Ukraine at the end of 2024 was manufactured by Rheinmetall's factory in the German community of Unterlüß.

The CEO of the defense company noted that the vehicle was currently being tested by the armed forces so that a serial order could be placed as soon as possible.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

Putin's 'Meat Grinder' Strategy Forces North Korean Troops to March Through Mines.

The war in Ukraine has brought immense suffering and exposed brutal battlefield strategies.

The ongoing conflict, fueled by international involvement and advanced military technologies, has also revealed disturbing practices that put human lives at risk.

One such revelation involves North Korean troops reportedly being used by Russia in inhumane ways on the front lines.

Reports from Ukrainian officials suggest that North Korean soldiers, sent to support Russia, are being deployed as human mine detectors.

Approximately 12,000 troops are believed to have been sent, with many forced to walk across minefields to clear paths for advancing forces, according to Ziare.

Ukrainian sources describe how these soldiers move in single file, with intervals of three to four meters between them.

When one steps on a mine, medics remove the body, and the line continues forward.

Lieutenant Colonel "Leopard" of Ukraine’s 33rd Battalion explained this grim tactic, referring to it as a “meat grinder” approach.

He noted that these troops, lacking protective vehicles or advanced equipment, are being sacrificed to achieve battlefield goals.

Their commanders appear to view their lives as expendable in the effort to push through heavily mined areas.

Drone footage from last month shows groups of North Korean soldiers running across open fields in what appears to be suicidal charges. '

Ukrainian forces described these incidents as ideal targets for artillery and machine guns.

The lack of advanced equipment and tactical training makes these troops especially vulnerable.

Armed with only basic weapons like machine guns and grenade launchers, they are ill-equipped to face modern drone warfare, which has become a cornerstone of the Ukrainian military’s strategy.

North Korean soldiers are reportedly receiving training from Russian forces, which could improve their effectiveness over time.

Despite this, their reliance on outdated methods and limited experience in modern warfare has made them more of a liability than an asset, according to some Russian sources.

The losses for North Korea are staggering, with reports estimating over 4,000 fatalities and nearly 1,000 wounded.

Maybe now Rocket Man will wake the fuck up & withdraw his troops as it will only create conflict in his country if he persists in sending in more troops to be needlessly slaughtered in Poo Tins 3 Day SMO.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

According to a report published on January 7, 2025, by the Air Force Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a Ukrainian pilot flying an F-16 has achieved a remarkable feat by destroying six enemy cruise missiles in a single combat mission. This historic achievement occurred during a massive missile and drone attack in December 2024, marking a milestone in the F-16’s capability to engage and eliminate high-speed missile threats.

The Ukrainian pilot successfully intercepted and destroyed four cruise missiles using the F-16’s air-to-air missiles (AAMs) and then proceeded to eliminate two more missiles using the M61 Vulcan cannon. The F-16’s radar systems, including the AN/APG-68 radar, proved crucial in tracking the fast-moving missile targets, even those equipped with electronic countermeasures (REBs). This made the mission not only historically significant but also a testament to the high skill of the Ukrainian pilot and the versatile nature of the F-16 as a missile defense platform.

While the Ukrainian F-16 pilot’s success is unprecedented, other F-16 pilots have also engaged in missile interception missions in previous combat scenarios, offering valuable insight into the aircraft’s ability to neutralize aerial threats. During Operation Desert Storm in 1991, F-16s were used to intercept and destroy Iraqi Scud missiles, though their success in directly destroying these missiles was limited. F-16s were primarily tasked with striking missile launchers and air defense systems, but they also worked in tandem with Patriot missile defense systems to counter ballistic missile threats. The AIM-7 Sparrow missiles and radar systems on the F-16 allowed for some interception capabilities against the low-flying Scud missiles. This mission highlighted the F-16’s adaptability in missile defense operations, even in high-risk scenarios.

Similarly, during Operation Allied Force in 1999, F-16s were integral in the broader NATO missile defense strategy, which involved targeting and neutralizing Serbian missile launchers and air defense sites. While the F-16 was not directly involved in intercepting incoming missiles, it provided essential offensive strikes against missile launch sites that posed significant threats to NATO aircraft. F-16 pilots contributed to air superiority by eliminating missile systems and supporting the overall missile defense efforts.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

On January 10, 2025, a report from the National Armaments Directors group, issued under the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, highlighted significant progress in international military cooperation efforts. Among the key initiatives is an ambitious co-production project to manufacture up to 1,000 Patriot GEM-T missiles in Germany, involving collaboration between Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and Spain. This strategic initiative, driven by the war in Ukraine and ongoing tensions in Eastern Europe, represents a critical step in enhancing NATO members’ air defense capabilities and strengthening their strategic autonomy.

The Patriot GEM-T (Guidance Enhanced Missile-Tactical) is a critical component of the MIM-104 Patriot system, designed to counter a broad spectrum of aerial threats, including tactical ballistic missiles, advanced cruise missiles, and enemy aircraft. Key technological advancements include a modernized proximity fuze for higher sensitivity, low-noise components for improved radar performance, and an active radar guidance system.

These features allow the GEM-T to effectively engage low-radar-signature targets and provide greater precision in complex operational environments. Its "hit-to-kill" capability neutralizes threats through direct impact, eliminating the need for an explosive warhead and ensuring destruction of the target. This capability has been integrated within the Patriot PAC-3 system, which has demonstrated effectiveness in recent conflicts, including operations in Ukraine. The co-production initiative is overseen by NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) and is based on a $5.5 billion contract awarded to COMLOG, a joint venture between Raytheon (United States) and MBDA (Germany), headquartered in Schrobenhausen.

The project goes beyond production, encompassing the qualification of new components, the integration of additional suppliers, and the acquisition of advanced testing equipment and spare parts. These measures aim to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Patriot system and enhance the readiness of NATO forces. Since 2024, these collaborative efforts have accelerated production timelines and strengthened Europe’s defense supply chain to meet the growing demand for advanced air defense systems.
