Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III

Any possibility getting the Cliffs Notes version? My eyesight ain't what it used to be, even with readers and zooming in.
Well, just select all the text and click "read out loud" menu option. Then you can work on something else on your computer and listen to the post as an audio book :)

FPV drone with air blast warhead FRAG-09-2040-3.1kg

Looks like it is a genuine accessory given it's shape and color to match the drone. If I was'nt told otherwise I'd assume it was a sensor for it or something.. ker ray zeee.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III

I remeber people asking how can these tiny drone dropped bombs take out armored vehicles.
The key is using shaped charges, and i found an awesome video that shows in slow-mo, how the charge works. I think even the creators of shape charges haven't seen their own creation at work like this before.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III

Russia's Recruitment of Women Prisoners for War Efforts.

Story by Henrik Rothen • 6h •

Russia's Ministry of Defense has been extending its recruitment efforts to the female population of its penal institutions. Reports from "Vazhnye Istorii" reveal that officials have visited at least four more women's penal colonies in search of candidates willing to join the war effort against Ukraine.

This development sheds light on a controversial strategy that intertwines the hope for freedom with the stark reality of warfare, echoing through the halls of Russia's correctional facilities.

A Glimpse Inside the Recruitment Drive
In the Ivanovo region, the female colony № 3 in Kineshma became one of the targeted sites for military recruiters. Lawyers representing the inmates shared that those with medical training were primarily sought for medical personnel roles, while others were considered for assault units.

Some women expressed their willingness to enlist, motivated by the prospect of an earlier return home and financial compensation, according to a friend of one inmate, a former prisoner herself.

Similar recruitment drives unfolded in the Vladimir region's correctional colony № 1 in Golovino, where the focus was also on medical professionals.

In Perm Krai, however, recruiters left empty-handed, unable to find candidates with the desired medical or sniper skills, despite some inmates' readiness to engage in combat.

Conversely, in Mordovia, the enthusiasm among the inmates of colony № 2 in Yavas was palpable, with many actively seeking assistance from their lawyers and relatives to secure a military contract.

The Promise of Freedom
This recruitment initiative is not entirely new. Earlier, women in Ulyanovka's colony № 2 in the Leningrad region were offered a one-year contract with the promise of pardon upon completion. Now, the terms have changed; pardons are off the table, replaced with conditional releases, and the previously year-long contracts have become indefinite.

As of early December 2023, approximately 45,000 women were incarcerated in Russia, a figure highlighted by human rights council member Eva Merkacheva, amid a backdrop of decreasing transparency regarding the gender composition and criminal charges of prisoners since 2021.

This recruitment strategy has ignited a debate over the exploitation of prisoners' circumstances and the moral implications of offering freedom in exchange for participation in conflict. For many women, the choice to join the military ranks is driven by desperation—a harsh indictment of their current conditions and a gamble on their futures.

Emptying the jails again.
What's next, the local nursing home ppl manning surveillance outposts.
Certainly, some clear tactics to rid the russians of the less desirables & nontax payers.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III

The State Department has greenlighted an emergency $138 million in foreign military sales for Ukraine to provide critical repairs and spare parts for Kyiv’s Hawk missile systems.

The U.S. announced the move Tuesday saying that Ukraine has an urgent need for the maintenance support to keep the missile system running.

The announcement follows a similar, small-sized round of $300 million in munitions support the Pentagon announced last month after it was able to convert contract savings to be able to offset the cost of providing the aid. Both the State and Defense Departments have been looking for ways to continue to get Ukraine support while a $60 billion Ukraine aid package remains stalled in Congress.

The HAWK is a medium range surface-to-air missile system that provides air defense, which is one of Ukraine’s top security needs.

“Ukraine has an urgent need to increase its capabilities to defend against Russian missile strikes and the aerial capabilities of Russian forces,” the State Department said in a memo outlining the sale. “Maintaining and sustaining the HAWK Weapon System will enhance Ukraine’s ability to defend its people and protect critical national infrastructure.”

During a Capitol Hill hearing Tuesday, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said without the support — the U.S. risks that Ukraine will fall to Russia.

“Ukraine matters, and the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine will have global implications for our national security as well,” Austin said.

If Kyiv falls, it could imperil Ukraine’s Baltic NATO member neighbors and potentially drag U.S. troops into a prolonged European war.

The work on the Hawk systems will be performed by contractors from Massachusetts-based RTX Corporation, formerly known as Raytheon and Huntsville, Alabama-based PROJECTXYZ. The State Department said the parts needed to repair the systems will come from U.S. Army stock, third-country donations, commercial off-the-shelf components and new production.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III

The German government comissioned Rheinmetall to deliver 20 additional Marder infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to the Ukraine. The order was placed in March 2024 and has a value in the mid double-digit million Euro range.”

“The delivery of this new lot is scheduled within 2024. So far, Rheinmetall has already handed over a three-digit number of Marder IFVs to the Ukrainian Armed Forces via direct deliveries and circular exchange programmes.
