Perhaps.
I think he gets over it pretty quickly. All the whimpering throughout. He also may have needed to smell them to truly know they were his people.

This guy had been in the hospital for a long time. His dog missed him a lot, but when he finally came back home, his pup didn't recognize him. Luckily, when the dog got a closer look of him, it jumped into his arms and kissed him lovingly.
