Can't believe I forgot about this one.... one of the rare recorded instances of hand-to-hand combat during modern war. What an absolute boss, this nameless Yemeni soldier, defending his post and making his enemy pay. I hope he survived - I wrote a story about him just now.

The sound of rocks scraping and scratching interrupts you from your solitary thoughts of death, it has company now.

Voices, two of them... they're finally here. They are no longer downhill but inside your small, dusty sun-beaten mountaintop observation post. The Houthi invaders express surprise that no one greeted them with fire, and through the shredded fabric of your improvised shelter you make out two men, both bearing those strange accents. You pull the pin and lob a grenade underhanded in their direction, they couldn't be much more than 3 meters away. Instantly tilting your rifle to the side of the shreds to get a better sight picture, you headshot the darker-clad one and he drops like a sack of rocks as you engage the other. The second one, the taller man, takes a grazing shot to his upper back which sends him off balance, right as your grenade detonates, consuming the two in a cloud of dust and shrapnel. Changing your position for any possible newcomers, you quickly make your way out the back exit of your shelter. As you turn and raise your rifle again, adrenaline pumping, you see clearly the second man still standing, struggling with his damaged rifle. You fire one round striking him in the chest and a split second later, as if on autopilot, you headshot the new Houthi crawling over the rocks, sending his hat careening off the mountain. You turn your attention back to the second man who somehow remains on his feet, his face utterly contorted with pain, confusion and frustration, he swings his broken rifle at you in a desperate attempt to escape death, his second swing sends him crashing to the ground downhill towards you. His rifle lost, he swiftly crawls and tackles you from the ground, gathering every ounce of raw strength to pull himself to his feet one last time, almost gaining control of your AKM, but your fists and buttstock find the man's skull. Grappling and three blows later the man is no more, blood running out of his nose and ears, mixing with the dust still swirling in the Yemeni air.

You gather yourself for a moment and take the man's two spare rifle magazines, thank God he also had an AKM. Moments later you sense the presence of another approaching the top, he takes cover as you take a few shots at him but the bullets find only air and rock. Running down to the lower position of the post, you wager you can get a better view of the one who escaped your rifle.

Reading in Reddit, it looks like a longer version of this video exists somewhere. Rumor has it he survived. If you can find this extended version, please send it to me.

I realize that the headshot of Houthi #3 in the video might have been from a different shooter off-camera to the right. And the seemingly indestructible Houthi #2 may have been beaten to death with his own broken rifle by the lone Yemeni. Either way, people on both sides here had some hard dick fight in them. Respect
