The ships are the USS Gunston Hall, a 190-meter landing ship, and the 155-meter USS Gravely, an Arleigh Burke-class missile fighter.

Both of them and the even bigger landing support ship USS Kearsarge have been in the Baltic Sea for a couple of weeks now and have participated in various exercises in which the Finnish Navy has also been involved.

Both vessels will be in the port of Hernesaari during the weekend, but the U.S. Navy will not provide more detailed information on their schedules.

The 257-meter Kearsarge, which looks like a small aircraft carrier, will be in the port of Tallinn next weekend. It has recently participated in another NATO exercise.

From Helsinki the ships head for a large annual Baltops exercise. A multinational exercise will be held in the Baltic Sea in early June.

The ships are in the Baltic Sea as part of a more prominent U.S. presence in the region, says the U.S. Navy. This is the US response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The purpose of the presence is to provide support to the region’s allies and partners.

As a sign of presence, the U.S. Navy also released a recently taken picture of the Finnish warships in formation around the USS Kearsarge, followed by two other U.S. ships.

The Finnish oil spill response vessel Halli and smaller missile boats have also been included. The size differences between the vessels of the two countries’ fleets are clearly visible.

That's the USS Cole DDG-67 in the 2nd pic. The Cole deployed with our battle group back in 2006. It was the ships first deployment since it had been attacked. I was on board the USS Iwo Jima LHD-7 at that time.

The Kearsarge is a LHD amphibious ship. They're able to deploy LCACs or LCUs from the well deck of the ship. The only aircraft that deploys from the ship are various helo's, Ospreys, and Harriers. Basically aircraft that can take off and land vertically.

That's a ridiculous statement. The U.S. Navy (even without being coupled with the other incredibly formidable branches of the U.S. military) is the most powerful strategic fighting force on the planet...by a significant margin.
