I think you can hear the mortar right before impact. It looks like it
came from their left of where they were shooting.

The explosion's orange fireball appears directly behind the two fighters. Their bodies seemed to shield the camera guy from blast and shrapnel so he keeps going. Maybe smaller than artillery like an RPG.
I doubt RPG because it didn't look like a shaped charge explosion. Probably a mortar.
