If I had to go, that'd be the way.

Re: Soldier Blown Up by an IED

At least he probably didn't feel anything - instantly blown apart.

Instant death is always the best way to go.

Re: Soldier Blown Up by an IED

Im not so sure it would have been "instant". I see no flying body parts. Don't let the amount of dust throw you off either. I have seen guys walk away with minor injuries after being not too far away from explosions this size. Most of the time these guys use simple AMFO packaged in plastic containers. You get a pressure wave will little to no shrapnel (usually just the debris/rocks its buried under). Anyone remember the kids and the huge "firecracker". Very similar setup, not shrapnel, just paper and plastic. The two kids who were "sitting on top" got hammered but several very close by simply "walked (ran) away" with no injury...

Re: Soldier Blown Up by an IED

I was about to say, the video doesn't let the dust clear, so there's a very good chance he was fine. The explosion wasn't that big (Maybe 5lb's at the most) and I've been fairly close to a few explosions that size, the biggest thing is the sand there is so thin a little explosion looks big from the debris in the air...probably knocked him off his feet, but I bet he survived.
