Pretty sad, it could have been the exact opposite of that with all the resources their land has, but it's highly unlikely they'll ever be able to turn their country around and make good and fair use of all their country's natural resources. If they had then they could have been a second Norway.

King Leopold never set a foot in his Congo River basin forest. Presently there are about 10,000 White people, 10,000 Indians, and at most, 50,000 Chinese dwelling in a country of roughly 84 million.
