Russian attack drones, artillery wipe out US-made M777 howitzers in Ukraine — top brass

MOSCOW, May 18. /TASS/. Russian attack drones supported by artillery units eliminated a Ukrainian firing position of US-made 155mm M777 howitzers near the settlement of Podgornoye, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday.

"In the area of the settlement of Podgornoye, the Russian teams of unmanned aerial vehicles and artillery reconnaissance systems established the coordinates of a firing position of US-made 155mm M777 howitzers used by the Ukrainian military.

The operators of unmanned aerial vehicles delivered a missile strike on the firing position of the battery of American howitzers, damaging several guns," the ministry said in a statement.

After the missile strikes by the Russian drones, the Ukrainian forces tried to hide in a forest and shelter the towed M777 howitzers there, the ministry said.

"As soon as the Ukrainian militants concentrated prime movers and guns in the forest, they came under an artillery strike. All the equipment and American howitzers were eliminated," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The ministry also uploaded a video made from a drone showing the destruction of US howitzers.

Thanks man! They didn’t have the ammo yet, or it didn’t explode because then it would have been much bigger blasts. I agree with your assessment that not all seems completely demolished

They cry for help, they say that they receive tasks that cannot be performed physically. I am on russias side, however it saddens me to see these (or any) soldiers like this. Still alive, but knowing they might get killed the next day. The best case scenario is they kill other soldiers and live another day. I hope footage like this becomes rare as the conflict hopefully comes to a close soon. They need men to rebuild

Yeah, it's a shame. Clearly those units had some dysfunctional supply issues and what they needed wasn't being delivered and they were told to "make do" anyway. Shitty situation.

He actually said “what’s left from 4th,5th and 6th companies” which means they have lost aprox 500-550 guys. In addition to that Zelenskiy said they are loosing aprox 100 soldiers daily. IMO numbers are higher.

- Ukrainians firing a Russian 2S7 "Peony" 203mm self propelled artillery. I think it's so funny the Russians named some of their biggest artillery after flowers. Carnation, Hyacinth, Peony, etc

Yeah he said 50-100, which I’m afraid also is more probably. Imagine even half of those having kids, parents, a partner. This is the first war where we see the soldiers speaking directly to the viewer it seems

Yeah, I bet it's more than 100/day. That seems conservative but the amount of "daily" deaths on both sides in my opinion is getting slower. No big moves on either side, Russians took some more ground outside Popasna yesterday and the Ukranians took some more north east of Kharkiv. And like nothing seems to be happening down south near Kherson.
