Flag/insignia isn't really enough to be sure its an American.
A lot of western trained Ukrainians swapped their flags/insignia with those who trained them. Some carry US flag because they are fans of US or just want to show solidarity. I.e a lot of soldiers here in Estonia do the opposite, and carry Ukrainian flags/insignia. I personally don't like this practice but...fine. Each to their own.
One reason why I think it might not actually be an Ameriocan is because of the Samsung phone :D
Americans have iPhones. Androids are seen as poor-people phones over there :D

Because a lot of the numbers have been verified and are roughly in the ballpark. I.e the "oryx" photo/video verified casualties matched more or less the actual reported casualties in the beginning.
Russian self reported casualties numbers also roughly matched the numbers reported by Ukraine.
By self reported, I don't mean Russian MOD fairy tale numbers, but numbers and stats reported by Russian soldiers. I.e how often they say that they have lost 20% of their company or when they say that "our platoon has lost x people for every 100 meters of front line". You can then infer, roughly, how many casualties there are in total. There were some other attempts to estimate the losses( by looking at the amount of money allocated to funeral payments, spikes in weddings in Russia etc).

I don't think that Ukraine is even deliberately inflating the numbers. It just very difficult to verify anything in war and soldiers self report "hits" even if they are not sure.
My guess is that the losses of 230 000 are more or less correct, but, its total losses, including wounded and deserters. I don't think that it's 230 000 dead. That would be way too much.

As I've said a million times, all of these numbers should be taken with a grain of salt. But when it comes to comparing numbers that Russia puts out versus numbers that Ukraine puts out, the general consensus is that Ukraine numbers are far more realistic. Not completely accurate but more realistic. I'm not sure a 100% accurate count can be made until after the war has ended. But comparatively speaking, Russia has demonstrated many cases of false information, indisputably.

The last time Russia released information about the number of their soldiers lost was September 2022 and it was just under 6,000. Everyone else outside of Russia was reporting it was 10 times that amount at that time.

The other thing to consider when it comes to comparing ANYTHING Ukraine says versus what Russia says; Russia answers to almost no one else but themselves. China may have some small influence on some of their decisions but not much. Ukraine is attempting to join NATO/EU and has received billions in military aid from multiple countries. They have way more to prove and far more "people" to prove it to. They have many more "partners" to answer to in every decision they make and every statistic they put out. The same can be said about any forecasting that Ukraine would actually commit a nuclear terrorist attack on its own territory.

The plans of arming Ukraine have already made for the next year as well. So, they can easily wait for half a year and start their main offensive with the support of western aviation and abrams tanks. This is what they probably should have done in the first place. The attacking side needs at least parity in air power.

Your absolutely right on this as IMO they need to consolidate their position with a push being centered around the "VIPERS" (F16's) leading the charge.
