The hero's name is Oleg Horpinyak. Judging by his Facebook profile, he was born in Donetsk, lived in Mariupol.

He worked as an SMM officer, in November 2022 he volunteered for the 47th "Magura" Brigade of the Russian Federation . [Edit, this is a typo from the source, is supposed to be Ukrainian Forces. There is no such brigade in the Russian forces]

This is how Oleg remembers that day:

"We were on our way to the Bradley to evacuate the wounded. There were three of us, and I had a large medical backpack.

I showed the two medics where the tourniquets and the hemostatic bandage were.

Then I started watching the monitor to get a rough idea of the terrain.

I noticed that my friends were visibly nervous. It was obvious that I would go first.

So we stopped. I took the stretcher out of my backpack and waited for the ramp to open.

It seemed to me that an eternity had passed... The moment of truth had come. The ramp opened. I got out and stood on the gangway.

I saw that one of my wounded comrades was lying to my left.

I thought that I should get closer to him and noticed a gap from the explosion, jumped into the funnel and landed, but my right leg could not withstand the weight of the armor and the soil...

I landed on my knee... After that, an explosion rang out, my eyes darkened and I fell on my back.

The leg hurt a lot. I looked at the right leg, and it was torn. I saw flesh and bones and skin hanging...

"Where should I apply the tourniquet in this situation?".

I decided to put it somewhere. He took out the tourniquet and took it in his hands. I started to unfold it and apply it.

My friend tells me to go back to the Bradley. I started crawling towards him...

I held out my hand to pull me back, but he said there were mines and asked me to come closer.

Kept crawling all this time and it was incredibly painful...

When people say that there will be adrenaline and you won't feel anything, it makes me laugh...

Because in real life everything is not like that at all. You may not feel the bullet, but you will definitely feel a severed limb...

After I got to the Bradley, I asked for a second tourniquet to be put on my right leg and then another tourniquet on my left."
