So it's alleged that Russia used a car bomb to kill a Ukrainian who was collaborating with Russia? Or was it Ukraine that perpetrated it?

Don't shoot the messenger... I don't use Telegram (it does my head in) and I did a quick search on TASS and RT with no results on this story. Seems the UP is using a Russian media source as their source.

Is it me or is UP saying it was Russia FSB and the EWN is stating Ukrainian FSB... I thought their version was SBU?

A powerful explosion rocked the centre of the city of Melitopol, in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Quote: "A powerful explosion rang out in Melitopol. Early reports indicate that explosives detonated in the very centre of the city, in a courtyard on Yaroslav Mudryi Street.

Details: Fedorov later said that the explosion in the courtyard of the Melitopol apartment block was a result of the "clean-up" by the Federal Security Service [of the Russian Federation - ed.].

"Preliminary reports suggest that [the Russians] intended to eliminate one of the collaborator police officers, the Russian-appointed puppet ‘head of the rapid response team of the people’s militia’, as a result of internal strife. Denys Stefankov was one of the 118 police officers [who collaborated with Russian occupiers], whose real estate and personal property we were preparing to seize," Fedorov wrote.

Meanwhile, RIA Novosti claims that a "car with civilians" was blown up in the centre of Melitopol.

"A self-made explosive device detonated; people survived [the explosion]," the RIA Novosti report reads.

Car bomb kills Russian collaborator in charge of interrogating prisoners in Ukraine’s Melitopol

Denys Stefankov, a former Ukrainian police officer turned Russian collaborator was blown up by a car bomb in the city of Melitopol.


As reported by Flash News, Denys Stefankov, a former Ukrainian police officer who defected to work for the Russian occupiers in the city of Melitopol was allegedly the target of a car bomb that exploded on Sunday, Saturday 18. The blast is said to have occurred in the yard of an apartment block in the city centre.

According to local media reports in Melitopol, Stefankov was the head of the rapid response department in the city. He is alleged to have been the person in charge of interrogating Ukrainian prisoners. It was suggested that his vehicle was targeted by the Ukrainian security forces (FSB).

Posting on Telegram, Ivan Federov, the mayor of Melitopol wrote: “A powerful explosion in the courtyard of Melitopol high-rise building in the city centre is a probable result of the FSB cleansing. According to preliminary data, in the course of the ‘showdown’ they wanted to eliminate one of the collaborators -police officers – the so-called ‘head of the GBR of the people’s police'”.

He continued: “Denis Stefankov is one of 118 traitor policemen, against whom we were preparing to seize all their real and personal property. Everyone who betrayed Ukraine should be clear: Russia does not need you. After you are used, you will turn into expendable material”.
