You mean the IFF system? Identify Friend or Foe. Any combat aircraft should have the system, but it can be turned off as well.
Yeah! So friendly rocket suppose to recognize the jet and avoid the explosion no?

Generally, yeah. Only problem is if it is powered down, the aircraft being targeted may end up with a missile up it’s ass. Also, since I don’t really keep up with Russian advances of their IFF systems, I would be lying if I said I knew limitations thereof.

Additionally, I don’t believe missile system equipped with IFF that gets a friendly return back from an aircraft would even be allowed to launch, so there’s that.

This is why MH17 had to shut down its transponder so that the rebel forces would believe it was a military plane
