Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
Today from Fighting Cat Moore https://kenigtiger.livejournal.com/2150609.html Meanwhile at the Chief's castle... As already reported, while I'm poking around in quadrics, returning damaged cars to service, the leader of the KCPN akela2017 went near Belgorod, not only to train the Russian military to properly use commercial quadrocopters in combat conditions, but also to show them the product of UAV developers friendly to KCPN - the "hybrid" VTOL . No, this is not the result of the experiments of the "Non-Brothers Wright Workshop" , a small workshop of the "Non-Brothers Wright" works here in Novorossia and is currently only engaged in reconnaissance aircraft, moreover, "electric trains". VTOL, "vertical takeoff and landing aircraft", in the photo - the development of a Russian company, which Akela wants to show the military as a possible solution to the "Problem of Orlans" , described by me in this post. photo_2022-06-10_00-10-11 DJI quadrocopters and other brands, which are now being brought to the front en masse, are very helpful in turning the tide in our favor, helping to improve reconnaissance of the enemy’s forward combat formations and increase the effectiveness of fire impact on them. Infantry fights on quadrics, mortars fight on quadrics. But if you ask artillery commanders what they need, they will unanimously answer - you need a lot of Orlans. 1 to 5 or even 1 to 10 against the amount that is now. There is no required number of "Orlans" - there is no successful and widespread counter-battery fight, but there is none - whether there is a breakthrough of the front, or it costs the infantry very dearly. If we abstract from the specific embodiment of the idea in the direction of the original message, then we need an apparatus capable of spending many hours in the air, patrolling the enemy’s near rear and continuously transmitting video of the movements of enemy columns observed below, artillery positions detected, and so on. Preferably - able to do all this at night too. It is highly desirable - able to transmit video over an interference-free communication channel. A many-hour flight, and with a solid payload, obviously determines the basic type of machine from which you can build off - an airplane with a gasoline engine, but further ... electric quadcopters, for all their compactness, of course, cannot be compared with a gasoline aircraft in terms of range and time of possible stay in the air, but the ability to hover over the target, as well as the ability to vertical takeoff and landing, are very valuable qualities that can be borrowed from copters. They become the main advantage of VTOL over a conventional civil aircraft UAV when it is converted into a military product. The ability to hover motionless for some time over the target greatly simplifies the adjustment of artillery fire on the positions of enemy guns, headquarters and "transport terminals" of the near rear. The bizarre appearance of the car in the photo, by the way, in fact, is absolutely logical. If you make an aircraft crossed with a quadcopter, you need four rather far-spaced attachment points for the "quadcopter" propellers, respectively, you can make the device two-beam, sticking a gasoline engine with a pushing propeller between the beams, and give the rest of the fuselage under the payload and batteries that feed the quadcopter electric motors . Actually, Akela's trip, together with representatives of the manufacturer, to the troops is carried out in order to show the capabilities of the vehicle in its current form, to discuss what requirements / wishes for such equipment the military has and what they can give and, most importantly, in what time frame they can give, domestic producers. To finish this war purely on Chinese quadrics "from the store" and on the number of "Eagles" that the industry can give under sanctions can become too bloody a task. Especially if it drags on. |
