They actually said it was unclear whats really going and that there were conflicting reports. Its obvious they need to keep moral up, and there is no point trying to defend any city within artillery range that close to the russian supply lines. The people you say the Ukraines have been killing for 8 years have not entirely left so the UA army is trying to draw them to the industrial zone. Especially as Russia has no problem leveling the rest of the city with the russian speaking idiots in it. But deep down you know this already.

If you read the full reports, you would see that they also report that Russians are making progress in some areas. Especially the parts about how they led up to taking Popasna.
