Russians are largely now aware that this is a shit show and the government is not being honest with them about how much this is costing the country.

It's clear that Russia is having issues with operational tempo, planning, and equipping/training their soldiers as it is now. Announcing full mobilization would would add additional strain to an already hamstring'd system.

I forsee huge bottlenecks, extremely inadequate training and pulling more mothballed equipment from the corners of the federation. And I'm not even talking about morale which seems to be in the gutter, their existing units are over deployed and experiencing severe battle fatigue. I read the Russian Telegram channels and a lot of comments. A lot of people are not happy including ones that provide war footage and commentary.

On the other hand, Putin needs to do something. If he does nothing he'll be seen as weak and indecisive. Maybe he'll announce general mobilization and not much will come of it and propaganda dept will amp up the stories so he looks good and continue to make excuses and the blame game to explain setbacks.

Putin is the type to do damn near anything to stay in power but I don't see nukes happening. He's isolated Russia from the global stage and even China very recently has distanced itself from Russia.

Edit: But then again, if Putin just shams these referendums which he will surely do and then gets the "casus belli" for expanded mobilization, that will be his key to more troops under federal law. We will see.

Chairman Andrei Kartapolov: Absolutely unjustified. There will be no general mobilization. The president has spoken about this more than once and is directly speaking through his press secretary Dmitry Peskov and many other politicians at the federal level. "Law" is not the same as "mobilization". It is not adopted specifically for a special military operation, it is adopted to be performed for a long time. At least until the time comes when it is no longer needed.
