Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
Ukraine may be fighting for their sovereignty, but while doing so, their military is fighting a proxy war for the west, using many of our weapons systems. Perhaps they have incorporated some of our tactics as well, that I cannot speak to. Suffice to say that Ukrainian troops have minimal training on these weapons systems, and are putting some serious hurt on Russian forces who have been working with their weapons systems and using tactics based around said systems for years. To think for a minute that Russian government forces consist mainly of conscripts and obsolete hardware is to wonder, what were Russia's main objectives of the invasion, anyway? If it was to go in fast and take over the country, well, that time has long passed. If it were to strengthen their tenuous hold over eastern Ukrainian territory and Crimea, that objective is still attainable, but not without some major reworking of the "how". If it were to Putin-ify eastern Europe one country at a time and rebuild the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics to what Vlad remembers, he and his Federal Assembly better kick it into high gear and send in the real front line troops and weapons, pronto - if he hasn't already. As a thought, why would any country's leadership go into a war/police action/military exercise etc., and not get it the fuck over with by using your starting line-up and best equipment? Time, equipment, money and especially human lives are being ground up and spit out like cattle feed - on both sides. Not a very "hearts and minds" strategy. The cost of military funerals alone must be staggering. Whichever way this beef ends up going, I am eager to see what happens next. |

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
During that Russian guards' air assault unit that got really messed up at that airfield in Hostomel, their vanguard units on the roads were getting hammered by ATGMs and tanks. Their rear was getting hit by artillery and drones and some airstrikes. Bracketing them in and preventing movement, just like what the Chechens did on the 90's. The Ukranians had planned for this exact scenario it would seem. I agree, that's bullshit. That woman propagandist on Solovyov's show was saying one day on like around day ~120 that Russia could have taken over Kyiv instantly but they didn't want to cause so much damage or kill so many civilians or some garbage like that. Just apologetic bullshit like every outcome is supposed to be "on purpose" by Russia. Just insane nonsense. |

Faust was Fausting hard last night and I was thinking about all these bullshit twitter accounts I have followed one after another over the years since YPG days. I haven't checked on that crazy pepper guy and all the celebrity Americans for years. But for this war we were spoiled: Rob Lee, Marine Mick Ryan, General Markus Reisner, Colonel Murz, LNR SIGINT Tom Cooper, apparently smart Stefan Korshak, well connected and smart Jomini, who the fuck is he?!! Chuck Pfarrer, ok he kinda annoys me And many more but I got lazy and just stuck to those people, oh and the propaganda machine we all love ISW. |
