Russia moved forces that did an exercise that was a dress rehearsal of the invasion weeks before the conflict started, then kept the troops nearby in position until the order was given. Almost exactly like with Ukraine.

Also, Russians were not part of the UN mission to Georgia. And Russia in fact opposed the UN presence.
