What's rather interesting to note is the history of Armenia as a member of the Soviet Union. More so, the strategic choreography coming from the highest echelons of defense and Kremlin leadership at that time. Yuri Andropov's plans left little to the imagination: In the event of a full scale NATO invasion of the USSR coming via Turkey, the idea was to turn Armenia into one massive front-line. In a potential 'total war' scenario, this entire nation was to be sacrificed to create a defensive buffer zone around the Southern Caucuses. Encompassing smaller territories and republics would've most likely met a similar fate... Those who still believe the Soviet military think-tank was capable of showing any empathy, need only remember the events surrounding the Suez Crisis of 1956. Egypt became an ideological proxy of the Soviet Union after Gamal Nasser came to power and hence a prodigious Soviet arms importer. Not wanting to lose Anglo influence within the region, English Prime Minister Anthony Eden directed the invasion of the Suez along with the French. It was a giant fiasco as far as British/Middle Eastern foreign policy was concerned. Emboldened and wanting to send a strong message, Khrushchev aimed his ICBMs towards the United Kingdom. And just to let the record be known, mobilised the Red Army invasion of Hungary (an Eastern Bloc ally) which violently crushed a popular uprising in Budapest that same year. Thousands died, hundreds of thousands became refugees, and all public opposition to the socialist precept was suppressed. Above all else, casualties in this picture were immaterial. Cut off your arm to save your body so the speak. The party and political dogma however had to be preserved. At all costs. |

Non are good guys, all are equally bad.. Only the Turks made the situation worse by sending in several thousand Syrian battle hardened man (ISIS/"Frreedomfighters") into Azerbaijan to help boost the Azerbaijani army.. So the turks are the real enemy here  |
