Pakistan, Afghanistan, Taliban Skirmishes and Border Conflicts
I don't have a full grasp of the situation rn... things are a little crazy in the world... Ukraine, Russia, India, China, Iran, Serbia, Kosovo, camel flu in Qatar (lol), Peru (have yet to create a thread for this siutation)... and now Afghanistan, Pakiston and Taliban... oh my. Thought I'd start a thread for this one too. There have been skirmishes going on along the border of Pakistan/Afghanistan for a long time... this is just the latest incidents in the last several months. 13 September 2022 – In the border area of Afghanistan's Paktia province and Pakistan's Kurram province, gunfire was exchanged between Taliban and Pakistani forces, resulting in casualties on both sides. The Taliban alleged that Pakistani forces were attempting to build a military outpost near the border, which Taliban spokesperson Balal Karimi said was against the "rules". Karimi further alleged that Taliban forces were fired upon when they approached the Pakistani troops for questioning. The Pakistan Armed Forces released a statement saying that terrorists had "opened fire upon Pakistani troops" across the border. 13 November 2022 - During the early morning of 13 November, Taliban and Pakistani Border Guards exchanged gunfire at the Spin Boldak-Chama border crossing in Southern Kandahar. 1 Pakistani guard was killed, while another 2 were injured. The Taliban has stated that it had no casualties during the skirmish. The crossing was closed for indefinite period after the skirmish. 11 December 2022 - At least six civilians have been killed by firing from Afghan forces near the Chaman border. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), heavy weapons including artillery and mortars were used in the firing by Afghan forces. Pakistan fired missiles in retaliation killing one Afghan soldier. 15 December 2022 - One civilian was killed and 11 injured when Taliban forces shelled the Chaman border crossing with mortars. VIDEO: "It's been 15 hours and the CTD station is still under the hostage of TTP (Pakistani Taliban) fighters. Pakistan PM got thrashed by pakistani twitter users for posting a congratulatory tweet on Argentina's win but not a single tweet for bannu attack. Pakistan forces still fearful of entering captured compound. Total Media Blackout. Hostage Situation intact." RELATED ARTICLE: Hostages taken at Pakistan counterterrorism centre seized by TTP Pakistani authorities have opened talks to try to resolve a standoff with attackers holding several security personnel hostage after seizing control of a counterterrorism facility in the country’s northwest. Security forces have surrounded the highly fortified military cantonment that houses the interrogation centre in Bannu district, where about 20 fighters from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) – also known as the Pakistani Taliban – are holed up, reports on Monday said. Bannu sits just outside North Waziristan, a tribal-dominated district in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that borders Afghanistan. The region has long been a safe haven for TTP fighters. Pakistan has been fighting an armed rebellion by the TTP since 2007 when it emerged. The group associates itself with Afghanistan’s Taliban and is fighting for the enforcement of their strict interpretation of Islamic law in the country, the release of their members who are in government custody, and a reduction of Pakistani military presence in the country’s former tribal regions. There has been a surge in attacks on security forces since the TTP pulled out of peace talks with Islamabad last month. The incident in Bannu erupted late on Sunday and quickly evolved into a standoff. According to Mohammad Ali Saif, a provincial government spokesman, the attackers were demanding safe passage to Afghanistan. “We are in negotiations with the central leaders of the Pakistani Taliban in Afghanistan,” the Reuters news agency quoted Saif as saying. He said the authorities were yet to receive a response from the TTP, adding that relatives of the attackers and area tribal elders were also involved in initiating talks with the hostage-takers. Authorities said at least one counterterrorism official was killed by the attackers who snatched weapons from the guards during their interrogation, Reuters said. Several significant TTP members were present at the centre, Saif said. He did not say how many security personnel were being held hostage. An intelligence officer told Reuters, however, that there were six hostages – four from the military and two counterterrorism officials. Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper on Monday said the situation at the facility remains tense 15 hours after it was seized and that there has been no breakthrough in negotiation with the TTP attackers. There were concerns that the military could storm the facility if the negotiations fail. In a video message circulating on social media, the hostage-takers threatened to kill the officers if their safe passage was not arranged. Pakistan’s military has conducted several offensives in the tribal regions since 2009, the time when the area was in full control of armed groups. The operations forced the groups and their leadership to run into neighbouring Afghanistan where Islamabad says they set up training centres to plan and launch attacks inside Pakistan, a charge Kabul denies. The attackers in control of the interrogation facility had demanded a safe passage to Afghanistan, a TTP statement sent to Reuters said. It added that the TTP had also conveyed the demand to Pakistani authorities, but hadn’t heard back any “positive” response. A statement by the TTP said the hostage-takers were demanding safe passage to North or South Waziristan districts and had “mistakenly mentioned Afghanistan” in a video they released on Sunday. The hostage situation came a day after the TTP claimed the killings of four policemen in a nearby district. Also on Monday, a roadside bombing targeted a security convoy in North Waziristan, killing at least two passersby, police said. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing. The violence by TTP has strained relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers, who had brokered the ceasefire with the group in May this year.

Re: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Taliban Skirmishes and Border Conflicts
Today, a video appeared on the network of the elimination of the head of the Taliban security department in the province of Badakhshan, Mavlawi Abdul Haq, Afghanistan. (Didn't want to put this in it's own thread so I threw it in here)

Re: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Taliban Skirmishes and Border Conflicts
The Taliban Defense Ministry reported clashes between Pakistani Border Force forces and the Afghan Taliban near the Durand Line (the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan). Unofficial sources report numerous clashes between Afghan Taliban groups and Pakistani border guards. According to them, the Afghan Taliban entered Pakistani territory from the provinces of Khost and Paktia and captured several checkpoints of the Pakistani Border Guard and border villages. In the meantime, Ahmad Massoud's fighters (NRF - Afghan opposition to the Taliban) attacked the Taliban's Interior Ministry headquarters in Kabul. The Afghan National Resistance Front (NRF) fighters announced that they had carried out a successful operation against the Interior Ministry headquarters of the Taliban terrorist group on December 28, 2024, at 9:20 a.m. According to an NRF sources, as a result of this operation, 10 Taliban were killed, including one commander, and another 5 were wounded. US weapons left behind by the Biden Administration are no doubt being put to use. I would love to take this opportunity, as a veteran, to tell Biden to go fuck himself for humiliating us by leaving the fucking Taliban billions of dollars of military tech and gear. It's great to be able relive it over and over when the Taliban decides to use it.

Thanks for the correction to help keep this site accurate. I removed that vid from the post. I try to be careful, but sometimes I end up with sketchy info posted by lying trolls. |

Re: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Taliban Skirmishes and Border Conflicts
Yeah, well, THANK TRUMP for negotiating and signing that agreement. Biden was left with 3000 U.S. troops against 40,000 Taliban, and another 100,000 Taliban coming into Kabul. Who do you think would have won that one? Would you have liked to have watched them burn 5 U.S. captured servicemen, in a cage, each night on the evening news, for the next year after we got kicked out of Afghanistan? THAT'S what would have happened if Biden had tried to fight at the end. The 13 that DID get killed were killed by anti-Taliban forces, trying to get the U.S. to continue fighting and re-escalate against the Taliban. Go do some research on it. U.S. effectiveness in Afghanistan was OVER by that time. |
