Re: New ISIS Autumn Massacre
Take a look at Saudi Arabia for instance. They're one of the worst countries for producing terrorists such as Bin Laden and the plane hijackers. What retributions have the American govt. made against Saudi Arabia? Absolutely none. Why is that the case? I think you know the answer.

Re: New ISIS Autumn Massacre
Western "intervention" in what sense do you mean? I'm not sure what period of history you're talking about. Are you talking about the Crusades? This so called "intervention" was European colonialism and expansionism. I fail to see how that's viewed as intervention. |

Re: New ISIS Autumn Massacre
Fapfap, Just to give you some background on where I'm coming from and to explain my viewpoint. Western nations have been riding roughshod over the Middle East for centuries. First, it was during the Crusades under the banner of religion, but secretly to plunder Middle Eastern resources and take over prized trade routes such as the "Silk Road". The region fought back and the western powers were driven back. Then, a few centuries later, European colonialism and expansionism with western powers being able to dominate because of their advanced weaponry and tactics. This was a serious blow to Middle Eastern egos and their ancestors and children have not forgotten that humiliation. To further add to the humiliation, the western powers decided on their own that they would set up the state of Israel at the expense of Palestinians. Arab nations were outraged and attacked the new state but were routed by the superior Israeli forces with western arms and equipment. Third, the western powers continued and still continue to try and prop up puppet governments and western-loving Arab leaders in each region they are able. As an example, people like the Shah of Iran and Saddam Hussein were able to survive only because of Western backing. Is this the so-called "intervention" you're speaking of? Please enlighten me since you dismiss my comments with a couple of phrases and take the high road with your uncanny intellect and my seeming lack thereof. |

Re: New ISIS Autumn Massacre
You are a man of serious contradictions. First, you say the west has no reason to be in the middle east. Then you say we should go in and take their oil. I point out the contradiction, and you see that as an excuse to spill over into a diatribe about how the only reason the west is in the middle east is because of oil (which of course goes against your original point...). I point out that the west has been active in the middle east long before oil had anything to do with it, and you attempt to refute that by giving a brief history of the middle east which, again, goes against you previous statement and validates mine. What you're doing is what people do when they're so excited about feeling smart about something that they make everything as black and white as possible for maximum righteousness. When you're forced to deal with the grey-area nuance of the situation, you quickly move to another part of the subject until you can make it black and white again, even if that contradicts your earlier statement. I don't disagree with a lot of what you're saying, but you need to realize things will never be that simple. |

Re: New ISIS Autumn Massacre
Fapfap, I was just asking you about what you meant by "intervention". In my case, I believe the western powers have behaved in more of a manner of subjugation and control rather than just meddling in the Middle East's affairs. Granted of course that history can be conveniently interpreted. As I mentioned before, I really didn't see a contradiction in my statement that we have no reason for being in the Middle East besides control of the oil (currently). |
