that's the good old 7.62 shit going down right there. The Russians had the right idea.... (British policy has always been to fire light ammunition, so that more can be carried) but look here - the psychological effect of seeing massive injuries is incredible, and you are pretty well guaranteed that one in the mid-section will eventually kill the victim through blood loss if nothing else.... The British always argued that an advantage of lighter ammunition is that it causes injuries as opposed to instant fatalities, thus occupying the medical and support services of opposition forces, but this theory fails because it was developed in a classroom. Many soldiers who are hit with a higher calibre round will not die instantly, but rather within a number of hours after being wounded, so the "enemy" support services are occupied anyway. The only difference being they are treating a 5% survival case instead of a 50% survival case. ( which inevitably uses more medical resources than treating the lightly wounded ) Point being..
