It truly was. Those were the days I was hard coding HTML and making Half-Life mods before Steam existed.

this, this all the way. the internet was fun but wasn't so powerful that it could substitute for going to the video store or to the movies, and didn't have teraflops of data availble in nanoseconds, it was still siloed, provincial, analog,i knew it was quaint even during those days. Warm memories of "a/s/l?" and chat rooms until 4am.
