Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VI (2024)
The butcher of Khan Yunis and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has been killed in Gaza. More precisely in Rafah. Units of the Bislamach Brigade were operating in that area and suspected terrorists in a building. A tank shot partially collapsed it. Infantry entered and cleansed the structure of any surviving Hamas operatives. Thats how the body was found. The teeth are matching. First reports on Twitter also indicate there's a positive DNA match. So its over. Israelis write the soldiers / unit was rather new. The soldiers who pulled this off were just a couple of months within the IDF. Just recently finished training and joined a combat unit. Hamas' ability to fight as conventional or paramilitary force are degraded. All they do are ambushes and IED related stuff. The whole leadership is gone. Now even the last remaining of the old guard, the Oct 7th mastermind Sinwar, is dead. It could be the beginning of the end. The hostage issue needs to be tackled, then its done. |

I would have thought that he would always surround himself with the hostages, as a dirty insurance policy. I hope that’s not the case here. That would really muck up the situation. But it doesn’t look like it. Sinwar dun gooft |

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VI (2024)
In an English-language statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar “the beginning of the end” of the war in Gaza. “To the people of Gaza, I have a simple message,” he continues. “This war can end tomorrow. It can end if Hamas lays down its arms and returns our hostages.” “Israel will guarantee the safety of all those who return our hostages,” he pledges, adding that if anyone harms them, “Israel will hunt you down and bring you to justice.” Turning to the people of the Middle East, Netanyahu says that “the axis of terror that was built by Iran is collapsing before our eyes.” “The reign of terror that the Iranian regime has imposed on its own people and on the peoples of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen – this too will come to an end,” he promises. |

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VI (2024)
The PM limits the "end of the war" offer to Gaza only. I expect IDF to continue to clear out the Arab militants within striking range in West Bank, Lebanon and Syria. They would be crazy not to. I wouldn't be surprised if Israel presses for IDF-occupied permanent DMZs in Lebanon and Syria before this war ends.

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VI (2024)
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) documented 115 Israeli attacks in 2024: 95 airstrikes and 20 rocket attacks by ground forces, during which Israel targeted several positions in Syria, destroying nearly 196 targets, including buildings, weapons and ammunition warehouses, headquarters and vehicles. These strikes killed 257 combatants and injured 181 others. SOHR reports that the Israeli airstrikes on Syria-Lebanon borderlands currently continue, with Israeli typically following the movements of groups of people who are considered Lebanese Hezbollah combatants, and striking when they try to cross the border from Syria to Lebanon. Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VI (2024)
Sources in the Saada governorate in northern Yemen, the stronghold of the Houthis, claim that Houthis has deployed Iranian-made missiles near the Saudi border in recent days. According to the reports, in the mountains in the Kholan Bin Amer area overlooking the border with Saudi Arabia, military movements have been seen in recent days, including the transfer of missiles and anti-tank missiles. Security measures will be increased at all entrances to Saada. According to the same sources, these steps by the Houthis are related to the internal friction within Yemen between the Houthis and the military forces supported by Saudi Arabia, including in the Saada region.
