Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread IX (2025)
In late September 2025, Donald Trump introduced a 20-point plan to end the Gaza war, supported by U.S. and Israeli negotiators. The proposal called for an immediate ceasefire once both sides accepted it, with Hamas returning all Israeli hostages within seventy-two hours. After that, Israel would begin releasing Palestinian prisoners, including those serving life sentences. The plan tied these exchanges together so no prisoners would be freed before every hostage was returned. Hamas would have to dismantle its tunnels, weapons, and command centers and surrender its arms under monitoring. Fighters who disarmed would get amnesty, and those who refused could leave Gaza safely. A temporary Palestinian technocratic authority would govern Gaza under international oversight while an International Stabilization Force of Arab and global partners helped train new local police, prevent smuggling, and maintain security. Israel would withdraw gradually, leaving a short-term security perimeter but no permanent control or annexation. Full humanitarian access would resume, with neutral organizations distributing aid and rebuilding power, water, hospitals, and infrastructure. The Rafah crossing would reopen and, if either side resisted, partial implementation would continue in already secured areas. On October 9, 2025, Trump announced that both Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of this plan. All remaining Israeli hostages, living and deceased, will be released within days, and Israel will free hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in exchange. Israeli troops will pull back to an initial withdrawal line, military operations will pause, and major humanitarian convoys will enter Gaza under international supervision. The deal marks the first real break in fighting since the conflict began, but larger questions remain unresolved, including Hamas’s demilitarization, Gaza’s long-term governance, and the eventual path to Palestinian statehood. Trump said he expects to attend a formal signing in Egypt once the hostage release is complete, calling the agreement the first step toward lasting peace. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/0...greed-00584857 https://www.reuters.com/world/middle...al-2025-10-09/ https://www.reuters.com/world/middle...es-2025-10-09/ https://www.reuters.com/world/middle...ay-2025-10-09/ https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/...and-whats-next

Everyone mark your calendars. Let's see how long it is before the first missile or knife attack occurs.

Later in the day I heard that the US is sending 200 troops to the region... which is different from previous agreements. I don't know what to make of it at this point. It would just be conjecture.

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread IX (2025)
The officials said the U.S. Central Command, led by Adm. Brad Cooper, will establish a civil-military coordination center in Israel to provide security and humanitarian support. The American troops, reporting to Admiral Cooper, will join soldiers from nations in the region, including Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates to provide oversight. The American troops are not intended to go into Gaza, one of the U.S. officials said. The first of the 200 troops have already started to arrive in Israel and more will follow over the weekend to begin setting up the new coordination center. The troops are mostly military planners and specialists in logistics, security and other support fields. The goal of the center will be to establish a hub for military, political and aid experts to help coordinate everything from humanitarian assistance to security support and the execution of the cease-fire agreement. |
