Such things are getting easier with the use of Arduinos. I just went to a class at Xerocraft in Tucson, and they guy lectured on the many ways you can use them. He is a groundwater scientist, and builds research units he can plant over a 200 square mile area, and they will communicate when they see water, how much the flow rate is, etc, etc, and get a complete weather report while it is raining. All the info is relayed by satellites, so he doesn't even need a phone signal.

I suspect this is how the Hammas guys communicated with Iran without the Israelis picking up any signals. The Israelis apparently have heard NOTHING over the last few months, so now are trying to work out how Hammas is communicating, since they are NOT using cell phones anymore.

In addition to Arduinos being very useful, people are constantly developing plug in units that you can just screw together with an Arduino, and gain different technologies, from satellite location, to real time Google Map info. The guy said you can stack as many as EIGHT different units with different applications, onto each operating Arduino, so it would be fairly simple to build a guided missile. Probably NOT as accurate as one by the U.S. or Britain, but certainly good enough for Hammas to use. They aren't going to shoot down an Israeli fighter jet, but they are certainly good enough to rain down explosives on some static locations like the kibutzes. (Kibutzi? Kibutzerino?)

I've personally worked with them myself as part of a MEU. They're amazing at what they do. Watching that operator suppress inches away, as his buddy frags the room is flawless. Footage like this will be shown in every US infantry unit, if they're smart.
