Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread III (2023)
Pretty much this. Just let them do their thing. Regarding their losses it seems to work, the massive use of air power and standoff weapons result in rather low casualties.

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread III (2023)
I can understand the need to weaken Hamas and civilian deaths is collateral damage in any war. It just appears Israel is not interested in saving any civilians or the hostages Hamas has from all over the globe. I totally agree with you on the loss of life on both sides. I do place blame on Hamas for using civilians as shields and preventing them from evacuating. So, I get that not all Palestinian deaths are the result of Isreal. I see a perspective of being a casualty of war myself and how that would suck. |

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread III (2023)
100% agree that there is (or at least can be) a distinction between being in support of the Palestinians and being in support of Hamas, but I’m not so sure that’s a rational distinction with most of these protestors. Most of the rhetoric that I’m seeing from the protestors is referring to “resistance fighters”, referring to Hamas and trying to recast them as a defensible entity. But, I think the bigger thing driving the size of the protests isn’t so much being “pro-Palestine” as it is being “anti-Israel”. In the modern manifestation of Marxism, any sociological issue that needs to be cast is parsed by assigning the label of “oppressor” to one side and “oppressed” to the other. In this case, the Marxist influencers have decided that Israel oppresses the Muslims by “stealing their land”. So, with that decision made, no further logic need be applied. Israel is the oppressor and any action they take is viewed through that lens. Likewise, anything that Hamas (an elected plurality in Palestine) does can either be rationalized, or outright hand-waved away, calling it propaganda of the oppressor. 80% of the people in those protests have no idea what’s really going on, and even less about the history leading up to this conflict. They just know that Israel is an evil oppressor and Palestine is a victim of oppression. |

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread III (2023)
Knowing of over a hundred people that have been to these marches, this is bollocks. They’re marches for peace and for the suffering to end for both sides. They’re not anti Muslim or anti Israel. They’re practical people with a shred of empathy, and can see clear as day that the attack by Hamas was awful, as is the over response from Israel. It’s gone way past defending themselves and zero diplomacy is happening on either side. And zero nations seem to be trying to propagate a path to diplomacy. They’re giving Isreal permission to cleanse Palestine. And that is the latest and most wrong part. But they’re not saying the behaviour of the Hamas terrorists was also not wrong. Both are. Things didn’t begin on the 7th. Take a look at the atrocities happening in the weeks, days and hours before the attack. You need to for perspective. People act like this came out of the blue and Isreal are some weak and innocent party that’s been stabbed in the back. Believe that and you’ll believe anything. |

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread III (2023)
"Channels affiliated with the Shiite militias in Iraq are publishing a nine-minute video containing a "confession" by the Russian-Israeli researcher Elizabeth Tsukarov who was kidnapped during her stay in Iraq (for research purposes...) about seven months ago. She speaks Hebrew and talks about her connections with the Mossad... Of course the text is dictated to her... A summary is attached. This is the first sign of life from her since she was kidnapped."
