Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread II (2023)
They’re getting sent a lot of pretty cool but older kit. This is the best shot of seeing the old Cold War in action we’ve ever had. Not saying this is good or that I wanted any of this. But it puts to rest decades old arguing and introduces fresh new arguing for us to enjoy for decades to come.

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread II (2023)
Crying like this is all they can do. But killing so much Israeli civilians and unarmed soldiers out of the blue levels the playing field. I mean this border was almost silent (bar rocket attacks) since 2015. Hamas and Israel just signed a workers contract allowing thousands to cross the border and work in Israel. Israel had almost no combat toops on that border, just survilance bases, sadly mostly female crewed. And then they attack right into this, massacre their way through almost undefended border posts, villages and even medium sized towns, killing thousands. Thats why alot westerners don't care as much as they did during past Israeli operations. Just let the painter paint.... |

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread II (2023)
I wouldn’t count on that level of self- and situational-awareness. Humans have an uncanny ability to convince themselves they are right even in the presence of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Too, you’ve got to factor in the propaganda effect. We’ve seen Hamas spokesholes going on worldwide television claiming, with a straight face, that the October 7th attack was strictly against military forces and that no civilians were even caught up in the crossfire- a totally clean op. And, then look at how quickly the world media picked up and simultaneously reported on a dubious Google translate of a telegram report about the hospital- and still think 500 “affected” (alternately translated “victims”) became “500 dead”. Hell, even a US senator rallied over that hospital parking lot “disaster”, stirred a bunch of people up, and hasn’t felt compelled to say anything more about it. So, I ask, do you really think that some poor, slum-dwelling Palestinian, who couldn’t give a shit less about geopolitics, and woke up to having to dig herself out of the rubble of her blown up slum apartment, discovering the bodies of her children along the way, is really getting decent source-news filling her in to a fair take on the Israeli side of this story? I don’t. |

Oh, my, Italy. Protests all over the world, of various types, by all walks of life. I don't take issue with people's sexuality, but for fuck's sake, if you're going to put heels on your feet, be able to walk in them.

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread II (2023)
Every civilization in history has taken land from someone else. What specific date do we need to go back to, to determine which society maintains the native rights to that land? 1900? Because people fought for it prior to. 1800? Because people fought over it then too. 11,000 BC? You get the point. |
