The thing is, that's the opposite of the narrative I'm talking about. They told him he was going to die to terrify him.

The common narrative is that these guys are told they're not going to die, and are filmed in mock executions so they won't freak out when it's the right time.

I don't remember saying they said they weren't going to die? My point is they were DESENSITISED to the fact since they went through so many fake scenarios.

So if you read the original account as written by the journalist quoted, Javier Espinosa (which is unfortunately behind a paywall at the sunday times), he says nothing about them staging actual mock executions.

He simply describes Jihadi John terrorising him with a knife, putting it against his throat, talking shit, and pretending to shoot him with a gun.

There's nothing whatsoever about actual staged tapings with cameras etc. of mock executions.

The whole "they do it so they'll be more docile" thing is just some random bullshit The Sun madeup when they reported on Espinosa's account. He says nothing of the sort.
