People who were imprisoned by ISIS (and later freed) said they experienced mock executions all the time and obviously weren't privy to their actual execution date, whether that is 5 or 55.

I've heard that they tell their victims its a "mock" execution, that they aren't gonna kill them but want to record something. At least that's the case for other terrorist group beheading videos.
