When you hear "moderate" Muslims say jihad is only a defensive act a non Muslim invasion of Muslim lands appears to qualify as just jihad by their definition. The same could be said for the later kafir invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan again.. ISIS originated as an off shoot of al-Qaeda in Iraq.

We need to continue to oppose and eventually defeat religious doctrine especially that of jihad and martyrdom. In my opinion this is the root of the problem not politics.
