Chinese infantry trying to overtake Vietnamese position.

20+ minutes of Pretty cool stuff.. Haven't seen alot of stuff from the 80s.

Gave a shot at translations. There's some technical jargon in there I'm not familiar with, and the audio quality makes it hard. There's also a mixed number of dialects used at various points. I think this took place on October 15th (some year)

00:00 The weather was alright. Command is asking for 30 min reports. They were focusing artillery on a mountain. I think it sounded like they were trying to cause panic, and subsequently bad judgement. Or they were the ones in a panic, and consequently had bad judgement. It's amazing what a missing few key words can do.

00:40-1:30. Audio a bit garbled to catch the time stamps, but they reported 80% destruction/coverage of whatever area they were shelling.

9:30: Something about combat surveillance systems allowing them to make better tactical decisions.

10:30: Guy points out the obvious about using heavy artillery and firepower. I can't make out if he said it was effective or ineffective.

11:06: Under fire, they successfully repelled the enemy counter attack

12:00: Comms to his commander. They were calling for the flamethrower to be prepared.

13:30: Reporter remarks on the flamethrower basically sending them into disarray. Something about after 37 mins of combat there were 46 (casualties?). Couldn't quite catch the word on whose side. I'm assuming the other side.

13:45: Sounded like he was calling to prep the grenades

18:00 Someone calling for the flamethrower again

20:00: Sounds like they're packing up shop. The guys says he is carrying extra firearms and his own. And also he has grenades. Someone in the background says they're going home.

20:40 Various senior command exchanging comms, trying to get a sitrep. The smoking dude wants a headcount, and a check for problems before retreating.

22:00 Combat ends after 2 hours 55 mins.

The Vietnamese are some fighting mofos, they have had plenty of practice that's for sure.

But thanks again having insight liken this always adds alot to the video

per my semi-research (few yrs ago) on this short “War”, both sides took more losses than they anticipated they would.
IIRC, this was in 1979? 1980.
But also some fighting in 1984.

China surprise attacks all along the north border of Vietnam.. but mainly in 3 places.

Opinions vary but many say China got the worst, in general, in the conflict.
Numbers & totals of manpower, eqiupment, and land are in a few places.
I forget the gist, mostly.
But usually the VNM bunch gets a slight nod, by many historians, on a very slight victory.. overall.

Both sides claim victory as China took some land,
Vietnam inflicted much damage to Chinese troop-power.

But as I always say, about most everything that isnt 100% verifyable, “it’s all just opinions”.
