Tug Erin Elizabeth Freed from Ice Near Barrytown, New York
Coast Guard Cutter Penobscot Bay responded on January 26, 2026, to a report of the tug Erin Elizabeth beset in ice near Barrytown, New York. Penobscot Bay broke the tug free, confirmed there was no damage, and resumed operations while underway. CGC Penobscot Bay is a 140-foot Bay-class icebreaking tug homeported in Bayonne, New Jersey.
