Tongass Catches Fire in Auke Bay, 23 Evacuated
A 38-foot merchant vessel, Tongass, caught fire in Auke Bay, Alaska, on June 12, 2023. Coast Guard Station Juneau sent a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew. The Coast Guard and good Samaritan vessels Zephyr and Ranger responded, safely evacuated all 21 passengers and two crew members, and transported them to Statter Harbor. The Station Juneau crew towed Tongass into Statter Harbor.  ·  ·
