Three Missing Divers Rescued Off Guam

Three missing divers were rescued Oct. 28 near Santa Rosa Banks, about 25 nautical miles off Agat, Guam.

JRSC Guam watchstanders received a distress call from the dive boat operator at about 1 p.m. after the divers failed to surface at 11 a.m. as planned. The three men had reportedly been on a recreational dive south of Guam, wearing bright t-shirts, diving lights, and safety sausages. All three were described as very experienced, with an emergency plan to surface together if they had problems.

U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam Joint Rescue Sub-Center developed search patterns. Responding units included JRSC Guam, U.S. Coast Guard Station Apra Harbor with a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium, and U.S. Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Two-Five.

An HSC-25 MH-60 Knighthawk crew located the three divers a few miles from their original location at about 3:45 p.m. and hoisted them aboard. No injuries were reported, and the divers were taken to U.S. Naval Hospital Guam for an additional check-up out of caution.

Weather during the operation was favorable, with east winds at 13 mph and seas up to 3 feet.
