Six Evacuated from Boat Fire Near Ala Wai Harbor
Good Samaritans aboard the uninspected passenger vessel Makai evacuated six people from the 29-foot uninspected passenger vessel Kamakahonu after its engine caught fire east of the Ala Wai Harbor channel entrance in Honolulu on Aug. 6, 2025. A crew from Coast Guard Station Honolulu and the Honolulu Fire Department responded near Ala Wai Harbor. The Coast Guard crew operated from a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium, and crews used a P-6 dewatering pump to fight the fire. The Coast Guard boat crew assisted a Honolulu Fire Department rescue boat crew, and the fire was extinguished before any injuries were reported.
