Rock-loaded Barge Aground Near Packery Channel

A barge loaded with rocks for a jetty repair project drifted down the Packery Channel in Corpus Christi, Texas, and ran aground on the jetty on Sept. 29, 2022.

Personnel from Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi assessed the barge, and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi surveyed it. On Sept. 30, the helicopter crew surveyed the aground barge while it was taking on water.

The Coast Guard captain of the port for Corpus Christi established a 500-yard safety zone around the barge while Peninsula Marine Inc., the barge owner, coordinated a salvage plan.
