One Fatality, Four Illegal Passenger Ops Near Miami
Coast Guard and local law enforcement responded to one fatality and four illegal passenger-for-hire operations near Miami. On May 20, a 42-foot vessel, FL2065SU, was moored in Miami Beach Marina. A Coast Guard Sector Miami boarding team and a Sector Miami Marine Investigator boarded it and terminated the voyage after determining it was operating as an illegal uninspected passenger vessel. On May 21, a 53-foot vessel, FL6464RF, was moored near the Miami River and was operating as an illegal small passenger vessel. Also on May 21, a 15-foot Tiki Hut, FL3756T, was moored near the Miami River. The captain was operating under the influence of alcohol and operating as an illegal uninspected passenger vessel. On May 22, a 40-foot vessel, DO1178153, was underway near Bahia Mar Marina. A Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale law enforcement team boarded it and terminated the voyage after determining it was operating as an illegal uninspected passenger vessel.
